A short, short story

Leave it to Jason to kick me in the butt and get me writing again.  He's sponsoring another of his famous contests, which always gets my blood pumping.  I can't believe it, but this is actually his tenth, and each one attracts more visitors than the previous.

Please stop by and read my latest entry.  It's not my usual, if I have a usual.  It's not dark or twisted, just real.

** Update **

Well this is a nice surprise.  I received enough votes from the contest participants to get one of the readers choice awards--very cool.  Thanks Jason for hosting another great contest!  I really appreciate the votes.  It's an awesome feeling to have made that connection with so many people.

Scott, I vowed not to even stop by this thing until it's over (hope you don't mind). I have no desire to enter as I feel too short on time to properly read all entries. And I'm one of those people who believe if aren't going to read every entry, you shouldn't enter, so I can't just enter. I will definitely stop by once the contest is over ... so I don't get sucked up into it. LOL Can't wait to see your dark side! And good luck!

Is that how you met the Mrs?

(Just kidding. Loved the story.)

Beth - Boy don't I know what you mean. Read it whenever you want to.

Natalie - That was a good one!

I enjoyed your story. There are so many in the competition, but yours stood out.

Scott - I loved your quirky (in a good way) - intelligently written story! One of my favs.

You said Jason kicked you in the butt and got you writing again. Well, after you asked me if I was going to enter (after I had made my mind up I was not) it got me thinking and I DID! So, thanks for the kick...I think! :O

Now that's the way to launch into your goals right there.

Natalie's funny resonates a little, tho doesn't it? Weren't (aren't) we all waiting for our Mandy? :-)

I think that's the strength of your talent, Scott. You draw us in right away, and like a commenter said, make us care about your characters long after we've finished reading.

Jaye - That's very sweet, thanks.

JR - Yours too. I saw your vid. How very cool!

KLaw - Thanks. I'm glad to have inspired you--you should always write with your talent.

Alan - That's a very interesting and astute point. At some level I probably was identifying with the freaky guy; we're all freaks, at least we all think so, at some level.

Scott, I'm so glad I followed your link to the writing contest. I really loved your entry! I'm trying to read all of the stories but still have 40 to go. I will NEVER be able to ride an escalator again without thinking about assasins, monsters at the top or finding love. What great entertainment.

You got my top vote, Scott. Really, really good. Just loved it.

SIM - Unfortunately I didn't have the time to read all the entries myself. I'm glad that you enjoyed it though. I'll announce whenever Jason does another contest so that maybe you can enter!

Karen - Your vote really helped! Thank you.

Sarah - You and Karen got me onto the board. Thanks for your support. Of course, coming from such a talented writer as yourself, I'm honored that you thought so much of it.

Kudos, my friend, on placing with "The Yes Man."

Yes, man - you got one of my votes!

Scott, I left comments at the site, but wanted to congratulate you on tieing for 3rd place Reader's Choice. I'm so glad Jason expanded Reader's Choice and wow, he expanded a LOT of awards -- his own picks, honorable mentions, I was shocked by the huge list.

I'm just glad I made it into The Forties Club.

Well done. I really liked your entry. The Yes man is an intriguing character
