Two Sketches
More in the AM, but just in case you stop by before I get back, here are my first two sketches, copied, but not traced, from pictures I found in a how-to book on cartooning. I'm not perfect, but I do like these a lot:
Scott, those are very good! I'm impressed. My, aren't you a well of creativity?
So your son is interested in drawing cartoons, that's cool. You may have a future Charles Schutlz(he's my fav) on your hands. Good luck with both of your endeavors.
Not too bad. I piddled (is that a word?) around with sketching when I was a kid, had a couple of books and even took some classes with pastel chalks. Now my hubby is the artsy one in the family.
All, thanks for the compliments. I used to draw when I was a kid, and haven't given it a serious thought since. I never thought I could draw anything even remotely similar to a real cartoon character, so I was a little surprised. It's all really simple if you follow the advice of drawing the basic shapes then fill in details.

Aww! Those are awesome!! Good job. I shall call you Da Vinci! Are you taking requests? :P
Well done! I'm assuming you had some drawing talent before picking up that book, right? I can barely draw a realistic stick figure.
I love them! You are a talented man!!
Scogtt, these are great!
Never type and hold a cat in your lap at the same time (snicker)
My son loves to learn how to draw comic book characters and I bought him a couple how-to books on it.
I specialize in fantasy and nature theme artwork. My fav medium is Prisma Color pencils and pastels, both pencil and chalk.

Nice!! Cartooning is very different to other types of sketching I think?
These are EXCELLENT! Why in hades haven't you pursued this, bud? You're a wonderful artist.

Man.
Those are good!
Keep it up!

Scott - don't be modest - it isn't simple. I've picked up those how to draw cartoon character books and it isn't that easy. I can't do it.
Not perfect, yeah, whatever. I can't even draw a decent stick figure!!! Most impressive, Sir Scott.
Nice, Scott! You are one talented dude, my friend!
That means something coming from such an accomplished artist as yourself Mr. Schprock. I loved your cartoon clown.
