The Warrior

My son and I became the Pokemon champions of the entire Hoehn region this weekend. We raised Flygon to level 60 and ripped through the Elite Four like a hot knife through butter. Wallace was a little tougher, but we came equipped with a level 59 Raichu, a few Revives and Hyperpotions. The rest, as they say, is history.

You may kiss my toes.

Coming into work this morning, I played an 80's compilation I made from old Napster downloads. My wife liked Scandal and Patty Smyth, so I included two of their songs: Goodbye To You and The Warrior. The lady can reach.

Patty was good friends with Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen when David Lee Roth left the band, so Eddie offered Patty the vacated post. Patty turned it down. She had just married John McEnroe, and decided to stay home and be a mother instead.

In an interview around that time, she said, "You should have seen their jaws drop when I turned them down." I would have been shocked too. Supposedly she has admitted to eventually regret that decision. Was it noble? Or did she just know too much about the internal workings of the band to put herself in that position. I don't know.

But my goodness, she would be a legend today. Now people are wondering who she is, and if her last name is a typo. As for me, my hat is tipped in her general direction. She's got brass ovaries, and should be immortalized upon the altar of motherhood. She turned down the rock and roll dream for a higher calling.

But after all she has achieved, can she claim to be the Pokemon champion?

That's right baby, you keep dreaming.

I LOVE both those songs. I must visit iTunes after I finish this comment.

Congrats on the Pokemon victory. I am hoping to prevent the Spawn from discovering it as long as possible. I've got enough on my hands trying to keep up with all the Thomas characters.

Thanks for the laugh this morning.

Shootin' at the walls of heartache!

I loved this too.

Like Jaye, I am trying to keep the younger kids away from Pokemon/video games/etc. I give them dirt and sticks.

I learned my lesson after breaking my toe on a pile of CrazyBones. Still, it's nice that you enjoy your boys' interests with them.

I thought I saw Pikachu slain by the roadside. Now I understand why.

This weekend at Little Man's birthday gig while surveying all the wizardry and gadgets the kids were playing with, my dad: I never did learn how to play Pokemon.

Me: You mean Pac-Man, Dad.

Dad: Right, right.

My hat is off to you, Scott, for keeping up with the young ones. Some of us cannot manage it.

Flood, I'm still laughing at dirt and sticks.

"Give?"
Thought dirt and sticks and kids was natural, like velcro...

Jaye - Glad you enjoyed it. I think I'll post about the video game subject.

Flood - Like I said, I'll post about this tomorrow. It's interesting that there is such a divide on this subject, mostly it seems between men and women.

Jason - Didn't you get the memo? Pokemon don't actually get killed; they faint!

Erica - My dad was largely the same, but he did fancy himself a barroom jock for his Pac Man skills. He even had a business for a while called Pac associates.

Bernita - Didn't you know that Flood lives in an IBM clean room? Her kids have never seen the outdoors!

Congratulations on the ultimate victory. I bow to you as the Pokemon champion.

I'm going to have that song (The Warrior) stuck in my head all day now though. It's going to be a looong day.

I'm torn on the video game topic. I personally dislike them and have little use for them which makes me want keep my kids away from them. But I also want my kids to be able to fit instead of seeming like aliens when they hit school age. Luckily I'm a ways off from making tough grown up decisions. I'm glad that's it's a way for you to bond with your little ones though. I have no clue what any of those words meant!

Patty Smyth the would-be vocalist for Van Halen? That would have been kickass.

I used to so love those tunes. I remember when she turned Van Halen down. I was glad. I like her, but she had no business being a frontman for VH. Then again, neither did Sammy Hagar. LOL

Pokemon champs? Seriously? My son would have loved a dad like you. =)

I never knew that story. So they settled for Sammy Hagar?

I didn't even know she married John McEnroe. What happened to Tatum O'Neal?

I've got some catching up to do.

Dirt and sticks sums my kids up too--except you need to add water :)

Congratulations on championship of Hoehn--shouldn't you be looking to expand your domination?

I didn't know she was married to MacEnroe either. Who's he married to now? I only recently heard of Patti Smith and can't think why I'm so ignorant--oh, must come naturally!!

Never got into Pokemon, but I'm sure it was quite an achievement. Hats off to you!

Brass ovaries! Ah hahaha! Never heard that one before.

I didn't know Patty Smyth was offered a position with Van Halen.

Oh, and I'll curtsie to you and your son's pokemon expertise.

Pica choooo! ;)

Patty Smyth rocked and I say she was smart to turn that job down. People who know anything at all about music of that era know who Patty Smyth is.

Besides, aren't some things much more important fame?
