New Lessons

It's been quite a week I suppose. On Wednesday I started with guitar lessons. The instructor is a hard core country boy, complete with handlebar mustache--not unlike that of my avatar. His name is Earl. What more could a guy ask for? You may have guessed that I will be learning some country technique. As much as I try to pretend that my primary interest is rock and roll, inside me is just a simple man who would be happy to live independently, hoeing the land and riding horses. I told Earl that I need more than just a basic strumming pattern to accompany myself. He gave me something to practice where I pick notes between strums.

Whoa. My brother just called and we talked for an hour and a half. Too personal to share right now, so I'll just sign off and wish you all a good weekend.

Oh, real quickly. My wife went to a new hair stylist last night, recommended by a girl friend with a fabulous do. All I needed to know about how she felt was in her runway gait as she ascended the stairs toward me. Pure dynamite.

Your fingers are going to be very sore for a while.

I hope everything is okay with your brother. Have a great holiday weekend!

I hope the catwalk attitude bleeds into the weekend. Enjoy!

Nothing beats a killer new 'do. Enjoy being the recipient of that walk, Scott.

My hubby plays guitar, but it's mainly Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath-he's so cliche. Good for you for taking a class. You must be busy with the writing class, too.

You're taking guitar lessons? I hope you fare better on the bar chords than I do. Can't get it, just can't.

You and yours have a great Labor Day weekend. :)

Bernita - In no way like they used to.

Fringes - Thanks for putting in a good thought for him.

Flood - Me too!

Jaye - My wife isn't happy about me taking two classes. Good for hubby by the way. I'd love to be good at that stuff, but I just like what I like, but really appreciate all the others.

Moni - Already got the bar chords down. I used to be in a country band.

That's so commendable, Scott. That you find the time for something you love (guitar lessons), even after dealing with all the other responsibilities of job, family, writing...Wonderful!

Sooooo jealous of your wife. I have been unhappy with all the stylists I've tried since moving here. The only one I've liked is an hour away, I'm beginning to think it's worth the drive.
Good luck with the lessons! How fun!

Hope everything is okay with the brother, or at least will be.

Congrats to you and the wife on the new 'do.

Speaking of Earl, Steve Earle does a nice job crossing over between country and rock. Ever listen to him? His sister, Stacy Earle, is more pure country, and has a bee-yoo-teee-ful voice.

Sorry to assume your were a novice like me Scott. And you let me go on and on about songwriting, you've probably written songs way better than mine.

Sorry...you forgive me?

Bhaswati - It could be considered selfish, but I like your interpretation much better.

Nat - I normally wouldn't have known what a problem it is until this. Shoot, my wife buzzes my hair!

Kat - Thanks, I'll be paying him a visit soon.

Benji - I've definitely heard his music before, but what he sings escapes me right now. Stacy sounds wonderful.

Moni! There is nothing to forgive! I've written nothing, and that's one of the reasons I admire your song so much.

I feel like the only woman in the world who comes home and puts it all up into an insano type pony tail after the beautician. If I was a dude, I'd shave it off even though my husband said he'd kill for my hair. Whatever.

Say hello to sore fingertips. I've played all my life and if I even put it down for a month, my fingers kill.

My husband is only playing slide guitar now. It's his new passion.

I'd like to see a pic of you and the missus. New hairdos optional.

I'm guessing that this might be picking the bass string with the thumb, then the other strings with one or more of the remaining fingers?

Go new hairdo's!

Your last paragraph would make an outstanding start to a short story.
