Great News!

The editors at deathlings.com are going to feature my short story Damned Carnival in their Summer/Fall 2006 "Funhouse Mirror" issue. After two or three times reading the email, I finally understood. I am going to be published.

This is a great first step. And what sweet validation for all my efforts. This is a gentle pat on the back, like the "good job" I would get from my father that puffed me up so.

At times like this, I swear I have a guardian angel.

I've said it before, but thanks again Flood. You know what for.

Oh, and get this. I get paid three cents a word, which amounts to just under a hundred bucks. Now I can build that addition--not. Seriously, though, how cool is that? The first time I got paid to wear a loud cowboy shirt, play my guitar and croon to a scattering of farmers and crop dusters, I didn't cash the check. It lives behind glass surrounded by wood borders and hangs on my wall. But that was only twenty five bucks. With this I'll treat the family to a day of food and fun.

GOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!!!!

I am SO excited! Wow. Congratulations!

THIS, folks, is what you get for daring to suck: featured, published and paid.

Please don't forget to remind us when it comes out! I am all teary for you. In a manly way.

I am glad that Christiano Ronaldo is as happy for you as I am!

I had to read that a couple times Toast. I chose that picture because he looked pretty effin pumped, but I had no idea who he is. Blasphemy, I know. My American panty line is showing through my jeans, huh?

Don't forget the little people, Scott. And, yes, definitely spend that money on a celebratory dinner with the family.

Congrats regarding your great story!
I never doubted that one second...

And Scott, thanks, it is really really appreciated... you're an angel! I will linky...

When it comes to BE, create a banner or take the one you have, and go to "my banners" then designate the location of your banner e.g. photobucket, and add credits to make it public... it takes some time because it has to be approved by the BE guys, but just once, then you can roll it anytime you have enough credits... I had some left.

Moni - Ok, you can be part of my entourage. You're hired!

Toni - Hey, I just want to be a peer!

Wow, Scott. That is awesome news. By the way, why are your commenters such early risers? I got here as soon as I could and I'm lost in the crowd of well-wishers. Gee, can a sister get a wristband or something? Something to hold my place for your next publishing announcement.

Scott said...

Erica - Ha! Blame it on the timezone.

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you! I've been melancholy all morning until I read this. It is so great to read about a first sale. The first of many in your life I'm sure. Go out and have some fun on that money, dude!

Right on! A big congrats thrown your way Scott. It really is a great feeling after piles of rejections. And yes, I knopw exactly what you mean by having to read the e-mail more than once to figure out that it isn't a rejection.

Congrats again!

Trevor Record said...

Congrats, Scott. It may not be the New Yorker, but being published in smaller publications is the first step, right?

I wouldn't even hold off cashing $25, personally.

Joely Sue Burkhart said...

Woo-hoo!!!! Congrats, Scott. So awesome!

I've just come from Eve/Bailey's blog to say congratulations. That first publication is such a special feeling. Treasure it. (You could always scan the check and frame that...)
Hope you and the family celebrate in style. Congratulations!

You're not the only one behind on the blog rounds! Coongratulations - that's AMAZING news!

Scott said...

Anthony - I need to read up since you are new to me. It seems that you have published a few stories, no?

Trevor - Those were my halcyon days of making the big engineering bucks during the internet boom. I would also cash it were it today!

Joely - Thanks for coming by to say so. I appreciate it.

Bhaswati - Thank you very much!

Shirley - This is a nice treat. Thanks for stopping by. I will definitely scan the check, if I actually get one!

Toast - I heard. The picture is probably from the game that Ghana beat us, right?

Claire - Good to see you. And thanks!
